Religion in the middle ages was usually Roman Catholic or Orthodox. The Roman Catholics were associated with the pope. The Orthodox people practice the ancient Christian church (Wikipedia). The Monks and Nuns exile themselves from communities to pray for the Orthodox Church (Wikipedia). The Monks would copy manuscripts by hand so all texts, religious or informal were hand written. Some manuscripts were decorated to look fancy, these were called Illuminated texts (Wikipedia). They were usually decorated with Silver and Gold. A famous book or manuscript from the Middle Ages was Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (Wikipedia). It was a collection of over 20 tales, they showed off the English society at the time. Some men excelled in intelligence and wanted higher learning, these men would attend universities (Wikipedia). Here at a university men would study law, arts, medicine, and theology. A huge moment for religion in England was the great Schism, this was the divide between Roman Catholics and Christians (Wikipedia).
Religion helped create a European Culture Identity by establishing churches, religious wars, etc.
